Lighting Lesson 005

It is important that you understand and use light to portray the image you want to express. The before and after image above shows you the original scene and how it was brightly lit. The subject matter gets completely lost in the scene and the image makes no sense.. Now suppose you light the subject and render the surrounding background black. I did this by adding one light ( sb 600 speedlight ) with a Gary Fong power snoot. By under exposing the back ground and just adding some concentrated light to the subject I have now made the sneakers the main focal point of this scene. Now this is in no way super artistic but it is a quick demonstration of how dramatically light can alter your image easily. This gives the scene a different look. Your posibillities are endless in photography. Use the light to express your feelings to the viewer. Camera was a Nikon D3, 24-70mm Nikkor 2.8 AF-s lens. Exposure was ISO 320, f - 16 @ 1/ 1000 sec. SB 600 manual, @ full power.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Steven & Laura. They married on Saturday at Samuel's Grand Manor in Clarence. They had an outdoor wedding ceremony and the reception immediately followed in the upstairs banquet room. The weather turned sunny and we got plenty of great images. Friday Weddings

Congratulations to John & Sarah. They married Friday evening at Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. We stopped at Ellicott Creek Island for pictures then off to Ellicott Creek Fire Hall for a marvelous reception. Friday night we had the great fortune to be at and photograph the entire event of Toni Scarpelli and Christopher Tierney's wedding. A wonderful day for them to tie the knot. Congratulations

Congratulations go out to Isaac & Caitlin on their engagement. They are a wonderful young couple. Both attend Purdue University and both are finishing up their masters degrees this year. They plan an October wedding in the Pittsburg area. We will be looking forward to working with them again soon. Pittsburgh at Dusk

We had some work to do in the Pittsburgh area this weekend but we did manage to take a break and make it up Mt. Washington to view the city lights at sun down. What a great view from up there. I snapped a few images for our blog. click on images to enlarge.

Race Day

May 1, opening day at Fort Erie Race Track. We had a great time shooting the ponies yesterday. The weather was fine. The US and Canadian nation anthem was sung by actor Jim Carrey's sister. They had $1 menu and live country music. Here are a few pics from the day. Click to enlarge.

Spring Waterfall Workshop

We took a ride through three counties and found six waterfalls. We shot five of the six because the Medina waterfalls was too over grown with brush and trees to get a solid view of it. Goat Island Shoot

Spring is here...

Spring is my favorite season. After a cold gray winter it is so refreshing to get outside. The trees are budding out and the birds are chirping. The flowers add a welcome color that has been dorment for 6 months. I love to take my camera into our gardens and capture nature's colors. Here is a quick snap from this morning. Family Portraits

Easter Sunday we had the extreme pleasure to photograph the Owen's family outside their home. A wonderful family to work with and we got plenty of images for them to choose from. The day was perfect for pictures and as a nice touch everyone color co ordinated to make a pleasing portrait; They will cherish these images for years to come.
