Gorge Walk by Gary Muth
We had a great opportunity to stop in Dansville and visit Stony Brook. A wonderful state park with nature trails and a gorge walk with plenty of photo opportunities. The waterfalls had a nice amount of water flowing which for August is probably rare. The park was packed with people and getting pictures of the waterfalls without people frolicking in the water was a little tricky but with a little planning and patience I got a few images.
Misty Morning
A fine misty morning with a bit of fog burning off the Lockport creek. Nikon D3, 24-70mm lens set at 24mm. Variable ND filter set at 8. Five bracketed exposures composited in Photoshop HDR merge at 32 bit. Finished in Lightzone 2.
Post Time Post
May 27th was opening day for the 2014 horse racing season at Fort Erie Race Track in Ontario. Here is and action image I shot with a slow shutter speed in order to get some motion blur to show movement.
G. Muth finally gets to Yosemite
Our recent trip to Yosemite was great. I shot 1800 images and I still needed more time there. I have more images in my pbase galleries. I will be constantly adding images so check back from time to time.
Nesting Time
The Niagara River Association installed bird boxes along the river a few years back. Now the barn swallows use them every year. I didn't want to disturb their nesting so I just grabbed a quick shot of this guardian on sentry duty and moved on.
Trilliums of Niagara
Well it's May and the trilliums are starting to bloom on Goat Island in Niagara Falls State Park. They are about a week behind schedule but in a few days they should be thriving. I took a few images today to share with you and I plan to go back in a few days for more pictures. The trilliums are Ontario's state flower and are endangered, so if you go make sure you don't step on any and never pick any either.
Where's Spring ?
Despite the incredibly terrible winter we had and the slow start of spring. Things are getting better. The daffodils are up and the tulips aren't far behind.
Portrait of a Fly
I got lucky today. Some insects are starting to emerge with the warmer weather. I captured this common house fly with a Canon Powershot sx 50 hs with a Raynox 250 filter. I am happy with this first attempt on an insect but I plan on getting better.
Upper Rapids of Niagara Falls
I turned sixty one today.I celebrated with a seventeen mile bicycle ride. On the way I stopped to catch this photo of the upper rapids.
Pencil
Another attempt at close up photography. This is 8 images focus stacked to give better depth of field of the tip of this pencil. I need to work on a steadier base for the focus rail but this is getting better.
More Coffee...Please
Another attempt. Until the weather breaks and some insects come out I will have to practice on inanimate objects. One single roasted coffee bean in fresh grounds.
Beans Close ups
Another try today at macro. The images today are of coffee beans. A little better than yesterday but still a long way to go. I will keep working on it.
My New Goal this Year is...
I have decided this year I am going to learn to do macro photography and do it well. You probably don't recognize this image but for lack of interesting subjects I shot this poinsettia bud today. Poinsettia's don't have flowers so bud probably isn't the proper term, but its the tip of a branch. You can see where some leaves have broken off and apparently mold is growing. I need to get rid of this thing soon. The subject in question is 2 millimeters across and very small. I used seventeen images focus stacked in photoshop cc to get the entire tip in sharp focus. This was just a quick run thru and I see I need to fine tune my technique a bit. Be patient with me as this is my first attempt, but soon I shall be doing some impressive images.
