Solar Eclipse Series #001

Here in Niagara we didn't get a total eclipse but it was still interesting. Here is a view of the partial with my Canon Powershot sx50 hs racked out to a 35mm equivalent of 4800mm. you can see the moon crossing over the sun from the right and actually make out a few sun spots on the sun.

Live Macro

My first attempt at living macro insects. Almost all my work previously has been with deceased insects but now I want to challenge myself outside the box. This yellow jacket is ok but I prefer more depth of field. I may need to switch to another camera.

Solar Eclipse (test)

My image of the sun in preparation for the upcoming eclipse. I think this will work for me. I didn't want to spend a lot of cash for special optics because we won't get a total eclipse here and it could be rainy or cloudy that day. I used my Canon powershot sx50 hs. I placed an R-79 red filter with two 2X neutral density filters on the lens. This shot was a test and handheld but for the real deal I plan on using a tripod.

Beautiful Rainbow

Maybe this rainbow I saw today means good fortune for some lucky person at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort.

Moonscape

In the planning stage of preparing for the upcoming solar eclipse on August 21st. Open daylight image of the moon shot with Canon powershot sx50 hs.

Removing People Update

The client liked the first draft but request the dude in the middle wear long sleeves and was made a little thinner. Here is the final revised edit from the post below.

Removing People

I just love a challenge. A former client of mine asked me to crop and remove the two women in a photo of these biker dudes. I think this works just fine.

The Black Knight

This wasp looks evil. Focus stack of 27 images with Zerene stacker to gain maximum depth of field. Image was then cleaned up and finished with Aurora 2017 and Photoshop CC. Shot with Canon powershot sx50 hs.

Free Poppy

Close up shot of a poppy we grew from a package of free seeds from Cheerios. http://www.cheerios.com/BringBackTheBees

Big Black and Beautiful

Large black ant. I focus stacked with twenty two images at different focal lengths to gain maximum depth of field.

Wild Flower

This poppy from our garden was given its painterly effect by over laying two different painted background images then adding a layer mask to paint the poppy in.

Candid Kids Pictures

On a recent visit with two of our grandchildren I wanted to update our pictures of them. It took me all day but I think I captured each ones personality with a genuine happy face and smile.

Morning Collector

Our garden has an abundance of honey bees this year. A great way to challenge your photography skills is shooting insects in flight.

Upper Niagara Rapids

I like to photograph this little waterfall on Goat Island. Very few tourists visit this area anymore. It is accessed by an old forgotten concrete stairwell on the north side of the island. The stairs went to a natural spring where tourists to the falls enjoyed a cold drink of water. The water has been contaminated and the spring is long gone. All that remains now are traces of the stairwell and this quaint little waterfall.

All Ah'board

A look in to the past at Strasburg rail road station established in 1832.

0h More Fireworks

I have a ton of these from the fourth but here is the last I am posting. You get the idea. All the fireworks images below were taken with a Canon powershot sx50 hs with tripod. Settings were 4 sec. at f-8, iso 80. Once you have the first one focused set your focus to manual mode. This keeps the camera from zooming in and out re focusing every shot.

Fireworks in Chambersburg

Chambersburg put on quite a nice display of fireworks to celebrate America's birthday on the 4th of July. I enjoyed photographing the colorful patterns of light.

Strasburg RR

I noticed this cute little boy standing along the station tracks in Strasburg. The background was a perfect match for his attire to make a timeless old fashioned photograph. Always pay close attention to your surroundings and you'll be surprised at what you can find.

Mellow Yellow

Summer brings tons of colorful flowers. These lilies from our garden have such great color.

Power the Tower

Here is the main reason I love to travel with a bridge camera. One small camera, no lenses to lug. The zoom reach of these cameras is just incredible. This Canon powershot sx50hs captured the Skylon Tower across the gorge with ease. Zooming from the 35mm equivalent of 24mm-4800mm. Click to enlarge.

Horseshoe Falls

Todays bike ride took me by Horseshoe Falls. I made a seven image panorama of the falls from a top Terrapin Point. Photoshop had a ridiculously hard time merging these photos because of the mist. I did manage to produce a small rainbow and retained detail along the Canadian shoreline.

River Run

A glimpse between the trees of the rushing waters of the upper Niagara rapids. Shot in black and white mode with an R-79 infrared filter.

Great Blue Heron

A good find along Cayuga creek. This GBH was intently fishing for breakfast. I had to back off the zoom so I could include his full reflection.
