Where's Spring ?
Despite the incredibly terrible winter we had and the slow start of spring. Things are getting better. The daffodils are up and the tulips aren't far behind.
Portrait of a Fly
I got lucky today. Some insects are starting to emerge with the warmer weather. I captured this common house fly with a Canon Powershot sx 50 hs with a Raynox 250 filter. I am happy with this first attempt on an insect but I plan on getting better.
Upper Rapids of Niagara Falls
I turned sixty one today.I celebrated with a seventeen mile bicycle ride. On the way I stopped to catch this photo of the upper rapids.
Pencil
Another attempt at close up photography. This is 8 images focus stacked to give better depth of field of the tip of this pencil. I need to work on a steadier base for the focus rail but this is getting better.
More Coffee...Please
Another attempt. Until the weather breaks and some insects come out I will have to practice on inanimate objects. One single roasted coffee bean in fresh grounds.
Beans Close ups
Another try today at macro. The images today are of coffee beans. A little better than yesterday but still a long way to go. I will keep working on it.
My New Goal this Year is...
I have decided this year I am going to learn to do macro photography and do it well. You probably don't recognize this image but for lack of interesting subjects I shot this poinsettia bud today. Poinsettia's don't have flowers so bud probably isn't the proper term, but its the tip of a branch. You can see where some leaves have broken off and apparently mold is growing. I need to get rid of this thing soon. The subject in question is 2 millimeters across and very small. I used seventeen images focus stacked in photoshop cc to get the entire tip in sharp focus. This was just a quick run thru and I see I need to fine tune my technique a bit. Be patient with me as this is my first attempt, but soon I shall be doing some impressive images.
Bird Kingdom in Niagara Falls, Canada... Workshop
Some images I took of captive wild and exotic birds at a workshop I attended in Canada this week. Bird Kingdom is located right next to the Rainbow Bridge and is an excellent place to learn and practice your photography skills.
Lighthouse Sunrise
We arrived early before opening hours, so I used my time to walk around the outside of Tybee Lighthouse to capture this great sunrise image. Tybee Island Lighthouse, Georgia.
Florida Egrets Give No Regrets
The great white egret is a pleasure to photograph. The birds are fancy and elegant and look so majestic. The post processing of these birds is everything and will make or break your images. The white birds tend to blow out the highlights easily and you will need extra care to bring out the feathers. Our workshop teaches you my techniques.
Winter Portraits at The Portrait Gallery Niagara
Although the snow is melting today, we are expecting snow and colder temps next week, so you still have time to get those winter portraits done. Here is an engagement session sample from last week at Goat Island in Niagara Falls State Park. Ed & Kristin braved the elements to get these wonderful memories. They are planning a June wedding this year, congratulations to them. Call our studio today for appointment schedules.
